The main point in Cares’ approach is to prepare Mormons for hearing the biblical Gospel of Jesus Christ by first getting them to realize their sinful nature and how futile it is to strive toward obtaining a “state” of perfection by following all the laws and ordinances of Mormonism.

Brigham (1977)

Brigham is a 1977 American film which is a biopic of Brigham Young. It was written by Philip Yordan for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and starred Maurice Grandmaison (as Brigham Young) and Richard Moll (as Joseph Smith). The movie was released in 1977 and was poorly received. It was re-released as The New Brigham, and again in 1983 as Savage Journey.

After the murder of their founder, Joseph Smith (Vincent Price), members of the Mormon Church flee to the West in search of a place to practice their religion in peace. Leading the way is Brigham Young (Dean Jagger), who brings the Mormons to the Great Salt Lake in Utah.

The film is a dramatization loosely based upon the 1953 Short Creek raid that had occurred in Colorado City, Arizona, and Hildale, Utah, United States. Collectively known as "Short Creek," a community of members of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, a group that practices child marriage and polygamy.

Johnny Lingo bargains for a bride, paying an exorbitant amount and causing a sensation on the island. Being an expert trader, he knows the value of things--especially self-esteem. Unfortunately, Mahana's neighbors are not able to acknowledge her great worth until the couple returns to the island later and they see that she has blossomed into a beautiful wife.

This is the film that was shown to me at my last missionary discussion. Only to find out 15 years later that there is 9 different versions of this, and this version was not the first documented version.

Huge reference to the LDS doctrine of the pre-existence. This is one of the most important LDS videos ever made, this was adapted from the 1974 play. The video version has inherited the play's popularity, becoming the only-known version to another generation of Latter-day Saints. Despite its importance, many Church members take issue with its doctrine and dramatic/musical quality. Some controversy surrounded its production.

This is one of four movies that are shown in the Mormon Temple endowment ceremony in most Mormon temples. Based on currently available information, this version was released in some Mormon temples on July 15, 2014.

Ignore the 2008 timestamp on the first 20 minutes or so of this video. This was actually recorded in a Mormon temple in Arizona in 2016.

On Jan. 1, 2019, the Mormon temple endowment ceremony was changed. Women no longer have to veil their faces and no longer swear an oath to obey their husbands.
