~~  A Guide to Witnessing to Mormon Missionaries  ~~

A Golden Opportunity

How do you feel when missionaries knock at your door? Do you try to escape as quickly as possible or do you view this a a golden opportunity to plant some gospel seeds?

It's a Golden Opportunity
Because of the Situation They Are In

Most Mormon missionaries are young men in their late teens or early twenties who are serving a full-time, two year mission. In increasing numbers, young women in their early twenties are also serving on such missions.

These young people are not extensively trained in the teachings of Mormonism! They receive only two weeks of formal training. They become acquainted only with the set presentation they will be using in the mission field. Consequently, once they deviate from it, many experience difficulty explaining their beliefs. This lack of knowledge about their own religion makes numerous Mormon missionaries uneasy.

But not only are many uneasy, many are also lonely. While serving on their mission they are not allowed to go home or have much contact with home. They are effectively isolated from family and friends. Add a rigorous work schedule and a spartan diet to the mix, and often it's not a confident person at your door, but a hurting one. They need to hear about God's love for them in Jesus Christ..............

It's a Golden Opportunity
Because of the Message God Has Given Us

God has given us the wonderful message that Jesus was our substitute. God reassures us that he considers us perfect in his sight because Jesus was perfect for us. "For by one sacrifice He hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified" (Hebrews 10:14 - quoted from the King James Version of the Bible, the official version of the Mormon church). This is the message - the only message - that can replace a Mormon's worry and stress with peace and joy.

In addition, God instilled this message with his divine power. The Holy Spirit works through it making it "the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes" (Romans 1:16). We possess a message that is "sharper than any double-edged sword" (Hebrews 4:12). Because of this powerful word we can witness with great confidence - even to Mormon missionaries..........
