I have a friend whose is a temple recommend member of the LDS Church. He is married (in the temple) with 3 kids. His wife is terminal with cancer and has about one month to live. Very sad. I am triing to witness to him and in my studies I have some questions. Can you help?.
Mormons believe marriage in the LDS temple is eternal.
1. Can he remarry a widow member previously sealed in the temple?
or does he do just an earthly marriage?
Who will he spend eternity with? the first or the second?
2. Marry a divorced lady who was sealed in the temple?
3. Marry a divorced lady who was not sealed in the temple?

Sorry for the silly questions. I am triing to help him through this time and just wanted to know this with asking him the questions.

Great web page.

Dear Friend,

I noticed that you have the complete journal of discourses 26 volume set on
your website.  My computer tried to download all of the links at once for
that reference material.  It shouldn't have interrupted service to your site
as my download speed is limitted.  Then it occurred to me that perhaps a
more ethical way of browsing is to just view each link randomly.

This material will prove to be of great value to me friend.  I hope to use
the information to witness to people of the Mormon faith.

Cordially,
Todd

Sorry, I meant CD.  I am most interested in the 1990

If all goes well, I will call you this weekend.

Rod, I am 46 year old Christian attending a Baptist church in Colorado where the pastor (John Smith) teaches exclusively out of the Bible.   I am raising my two boys (12 and 10) to be fine Christian men.  I was originally baptized, as a youth, Catholic.  My parents converted to Mormonism while I was young, and for the most part I was raised Mormon in Tempe, Arizona.  I turned (ran) from Mormonism at the time they were interviewing me to go on a mission.  I realized that this is not something I believed in enough to spend two years of my life.  In fact, I realized if I did not believe in the doctrine enough to "sell" it to others - I didn't believe in it at all.  As it is for many others, as I cleansed my soul of the false prophets and false teaching (my house was clean), and the demon came back to find it empty seven times stronger.  That struggle took me into my thirties with a lot of hurt to good people that came in contact with me.  If your ministry keeps some from "falling" from the cult to the fire - may God keep your work alive.  I have many family members that have continued their Mormon belief.  Two nephews returned from Latin missions, and two more nephews have been in the states completing their missions.  I have been an avid researcher about Mormon issues as relating to the Bible in preparation for the opportunity when one of my blood family is looking for a way out.  That as they clean their house of the Mormon demon, they can fill it with Christ Jesus.

I live in southern Missouri and after studying the Mormon beliefs. I was just in awhhh... I couldn't believe what was going on around us and no one had a clue. So if I'm not able to help my friends that are in the Mormon church to see the truth (I'm trying) at least I can help others from being blindly led into the Mormon beliefs (a false Christ).

Your website has been a great help. THANKS for all you help

I've talked to a few ex-Mormons that said if one of the higher up people (male) in the Mormon church would come to you (another Mormon) and wanted to sleep with your wife. That it should be an honor and you should let him. Also, swapping wives. Is this a normal practice in the Mormon church?

Hello Rod,
The problems I had in viewing your webite seem to have been due my Netscape program, as when I view it with my Explorer program the hyphens and periods appear as light little squares! Hummm... oh well.
Also, Logan Davis just sent me a very good letter he's written to the TLC, just this morning. It's excellent. Would you be interested in his letter? If so, I write and see how he feels about it.

Hello Rod,
Thank you for posting my letter to the TLC. I think it looks great! abd you did it in such a way that it really can't be overlooked --- good show.
I do have a suggestion, as you have asked for any. When I write, I often place three periods in a row to represent a pause. When I brought up the letter via your website, all these "pauses" come up as three question marks "???" in a row. People will probably figure it out for themselves, a few, anyway. But it might be somewhat confusing to some of the nore seriously confused and to those inother countries. Who, in the event you are not aware of it, read a great deal about anything and everything concerning the pro's and con's of Mormonism. Would it b too much to request this little glitch be rectified if at all possible?
Also, there seems to be a question mark "?" inserted wherever a word is hyphenated.
The document I sent you is biased or aligned to both margins. Thus on your website it come sup as having a few lines stretched out from margin to margin, with few letters to fill it. This might also make the document have better appearance to your readers.
Rod, I really appreciate your being open minded enough to place this letter on your ministry's website, as you probably do not agree with some of the things I've written. Still you seem to stand fast upon what you believe and are not shaken --- good for you.

Hello Rod,
Thank you for your quick response, I appreciate this, as well... and yes, I would like it if you would call me, Randy.
Yes, I did notice that you'd removed three former members of TLC's Quorum of Apostles and I can well imagine their threats to sue, had you not. It's unfortunate that they would feel so disposed as to make such threats, as well as to think that removing their names from said website will diminish or somehow remove their association or any responsibility of the part they played therein. I was there, I did what I did, I said what I said --- I make no apologies for my part or on my part. It's simply what I said and did due my beliefs and in good faith, according to what understandings I had at the time.  Has it cost me in terms of family, friends and relationships? Yes... it has cost me dearly. Has it cost me in the form of employment and any career moves I might have made? Probably so. Have I suffered any persecutions due my actions and position? Undoubtedly. Mostly from they who feigned friendship; they who swore their love and devotion; they who begged my trust and they who might seem so pious! Oh well... it has been said that a man's enemies are they of his own house. I have found this to be verily true.
If you're at all interested in why I left the TLC, I would be happy to attempt some explanation and justification, of sorts. I do not seek any sort of following, as it has been suggested. Neither do I want one! --- never have. I've never desired to be a great leader or an ignorant follower. I simply seek truth, when, where and however it might present itself, and from whomever might feel to share what they may have. Do I have all the truth? No... but neither does anyone else --- most either won't or don't see it, anyway, and don't want to. I suppose it to be due their many traditions, dogma and sophistry... and their personal lust for power and control of everyone and everything. Silly, isn't it? Or at least when one stops to really think about it. But, who knows?
So far as stories go, stories about the TLC, I have a million of them, and then some. So far as what all's gone on in the TLC and with the TLC, I can tell you what I know of. However most folks wouldn't want to hear of it or to even know --- they have their opinions already, many of them. Yes, though based greatly on rumor, here say and innuendo --- it's what they want to believe; what they'd like to think; it give them a justification and maintains whatever status they might feel they have. But when the learn the truth, they fall to pieces... and this is what they already know in their hearts and what they are most afraid of. The Truth.
I have avoided telling on Harmston or shouting his sins from the roof tops. Why? Because I don't want to do anything to further his scheme. It only tends to fuel his machine and he can then cry, "See! they persecute me! All true prophets are persecuted!" Hummm... it's funny, Harmston's never really been persecuted, he's only served to persecute, use and abuse others. Especially those who aren't so easily led into his delusion or out-right reject it and him. I can tell you what Harmston's all about and what he's up to and why. But this may tend to shake many in their testimonies of those whom Harmston simply emulates. Possibly the best way to expose Harmston is to do nothing, and let him show himself for who and what he is. However, it doesn't hurt to throw out a few things or allegories to keep him on his toes! Harmston needed an arch rival --- someone whom he felt an equal or a worthy adversary. I was to be that man. But I chose not to be that man. Harmston views me as his Nemesis and he is terrified of me. I view him as silly and stupid, and engrossed in his own strong delusion --- he's as phony as a three dollar bill. He's never had an original thought. It's as his wife Elaine told me, "If I hadn't done Jim's homework for him, he'd have never made it through college."
So far as my open letter to the TLC, it was given to me or rather, it came to me and I wrote it in one afternoon. I haven't seen any reason to change it or felt it needed anything added to or taken from it. I hope you find it interesting, at the very least. Keep in mind that I addressed it to the members of the TLC and it is they who need to hear it, and all who know the truth if and when they might see and hear it. So I'm attaching said letter to this message. Please let me know what you think?
        Sincerely,
        Randy Maudsley

Hello.

I see that you are bidding on the Oct 1978 LDS fall conference tapes. I've been watching those and was going to bid on them but I noticed that you are from helpingmormons.org?

I was going to also bid on the 1979 spring conference tapes and was wondering if you won your auction if you'd be willing to share the mp3's with me? I'll be more than willing to record the tapes from the 1979 and share those with you if you'd like.

I'm guessing that you're looking for the same time period I am : when the blacks were allowed the priesthood?

Take care and keep up the ministry,

An Urgent Need

Dear brothers in Christ,

Here in Romania, we are under a Mormon siege. And
through this letter, we want to inform you about the
situation in our country. Mormons are conquering more
and more ground and they are present in all the major
cities of Romania, attracting people to their false
god and gospel. Only in the capital, in Bucharest,
they have built seven great chapels. They are trying
to convert people to Mormonism through every possible
means: conferences, English language classes, door to
door witnessing and dissemination of literature (even
advertising of the Book of Mormon as being a Christian
book.) In the rural parts, people receive money or
tools for converting to Mormonism.
Under these circumstances, we would like to ask you
for help. My name is Paul Dan and I am the pastor of a
small church here in Bucharest. I am a Romanian with
US citizenship. I came in the USA in 1994, as a
political refugee. I am married - my wife name is
Luminita - and we have five daughters. In 1992, I
graduated from Talbot School of theology. Presently, I
am a missionary in Romania, working in
Cults-Apologetics and church planting. My references
in US are: Dr. J.P. Moreland, Professor of Christian
Philosophy and Apologetics at Talbot School of
Theology. He can be reached at 1- (562) - 903 6000,
extension 4764, and Dr. Bingham Hunter, Adult
Ministries Pastor at Harvest Bible Chapel, in Rolling
Meadows, Illinois, phone no. 1 - (847) 398 7024,
extension 120.

I would like to tell you a few things about our work
here until now. We have translated stuff about Seventh
Day Adventism, Mormonism and Jehova's Witnesses. All
these translations were done by our translator, Miss
Alina Lincan. Alina is an English teacher in Bucharest
and she has done a fantastic job, translating all
these things. She started with the translation of two
movies: "Left Behind" and "Tribulation", which were
shown to large audiences (especially young) in
Bucharest. Last summer, she translated parts of a
website (
www.ellenwhite.org) about Ellen White and the
heresies of Seventh Day Adventism. She went on,
through this fall and winter, translating "The God
Makers" by Dave Hunt and Ed Decker and "Reasoning from
the Scriptures with the Jehova's Witnesses" by Ron
Rhodes. In all of these, she has done a terrific job,
of which I am very happy. I have supported financially
all these translations from my own resources. But now,
my financial resources are very limited and that is
why I am making an appeal to you. We would like to
start working on the translation of parts of your
website, which are more relevant here in Romania,
because the youth are on I-net al day long. We would
like to ask for your approval concerning the
translation of part of your website. Also, can you
find for us some sponsors who would be willing to give
us a financial help of 1000 dollars for this work to
be completed? The money could be sent by increments,
as the work of translation progresses. You can send
the money directly to Alina's bank account. Account
number: S443\251100230002248, SWIFT: BRDEROBU. You
could send the money by increments, as the work of
translation progresses. By doing so, you would greatly
help the young people in Romania, which find
themselves under a fierce Mormon attack and completely
lack any informational material about the true nature
of this damaging cult. If the Lord helps us in this
project, we want to send the link with the translation
to many Romanian websites. We would also advertise it
in the newspaper, so that lots of people may have
access to this information.
This $ 1000 will also help Alina take a short mission
trip to China this summer, together with her fiancé,
Alex. They both feel called by the Lord to serve in
China as missionaries and, by His grace, they will
travel to China with pastor Graham Cousens from UK,
working for The World Team missionary organization.
For any references, contact brother Graham Cousens at
the address:
gacousens@cs.com
With the hope of finding a help in you and of working
together in God's ministry in Romania, we are looking
forward to hearing from you. Here is Alina's e-mail
address, at which you can contact me or ask any
questions, through her address:
alinalincan@yahoo.com

Hello,

I just want to say, how sad it is that people get excommunicated from the Mormon church. I just want you to know, that I am not Mormon or a supporter of them. I believe in the Christ of the bible, and only that Christ, even though my faith isn't where it should be sometimes. I think in the Mormon church, they want to control their people. With excommunications, If someone finds out about the Mormon church being a cult, and leave under their own free-will. the church wants to excommunicate them, since they asked to have their name taken off of the membership rolls. I guess they don't want the other members, or the general public to know, that these people left under their own power. It seems the are hiding something, and another thing. this confuses me. If the Mormon church, claims to be the only true church, how come they want to be accepted as another Christian denomination.  They call the our churches , the whores of Babylon. Maybe the found their true calling :) lol.

Thanks,

Josh

I got to listen to James Walker (watchmen fellowship) speak this past week and join him in praying for two now ex-mormons to accept the true Jesus into their hearts.  I had the privilege of joining him for a bite to eat afterwards and to discuss some classes I am putting together for our church on mormonism.  What a blessing his ministry is just like yours.  I hope you both keep putting out the truth for all to see so that others like myself can learn from your knowledge and keep growing the message of the gospel.

Rod asks:

"So, the temple ceremony has been published for the world to see in its entirety because of deception. Many of these groups or individuals claim to be Christian. Is the continued publication or production of the ceremony by these Christians considered a sin or blaspheme against God? Or does it please God that these false teachings and doctrines are being exposed to everyone so that all may know the truth.
Please let me know your thoughts and opinions."

I would rather think that exposing the temple ceremony for all to hear (to see would be kind of great) is more an act for God than against God.  I think that it is good that Mormonism is being exposed for what it is.  I listened to both versions via internet and found them both very creepy and weird.  I didn't feel any spirit of God.  It would have been enough for me to steer me away from it, I would hope, if I was investigating this religion.

I also agree that we need to respect them and their "sacred" ceremony.  I would be offended and upset if someone came into my church and disrespected my ceremony and belief system....but we don't have any secret ones that I know of, and I wasn't given the milk before the meat before I joined either.  Many, many Mormons don't even know what to expect when they go in for the first time.  Why is it that even TBMs don't get filled in?  So, in that regard, the recording available on the internet and for sale could be considered wrong....but somehow I really don't think it is.....I don't know if DJ's motives are good, bad, just curiosity, whatever.  I wouldn't mind going thru it myself, just to see.  But I also try to respect my families' religion of choice.  The internet has given me more information than I ever imagined.  Anyway, I think I answered the question...sort of....Yes, deception is wrong, but I think many of us are in agreement that this sacred temple ritual is not for God, it's for Satan, and in that respect, lets expose it....get people out and away from Mormonism.

Hi, I was at your presentation on Sunday.  It was very informative.  I also was involved in the LDS cult and have family memebers and friends that still are.  I was planning on inviting them to your next meeting and am asking for your prayers in this matter.  I wanted to also ask that, although I, being on the other side of it now, thought the little jokes and anecdotals were amusing with everyone else, I do not want them to think we are moking them in any way, as I am afraid this will only hurt and ager them and they will not be able or willing to hear it.  I am thankful to the Lord with all my heart for the ministry he is giving you in this, and am myself desiring to join this cause with you.  Any and all help in this would deeply be appreciated.  I would like to discuss this in person or on the phone.  I am looking forward to this Sundays presentation and am praying for the Lords anointing upon you, and that all those whom He will bring, He would prepare their hearts and minds to receive the truth.  The spiritual warfare always gets heavy when we are doing the important work of the Lord so be on gaurd for anything that may come your way seeking to afflict you emotionally, physically and spiritually.  I have been praying against demonic interference and hope you are too, for we know the deceiver doesnt want to let any out of his grasp.  May God bless and keep you and yours in every way.  If you would like to contact me, my # is ***-****.  Thanks be to God and our Lord Jesus Christ for the truth and faithfulness of His word, and for sharing the fruits of His labor with us.

Having left the Mormon Church in 1996, I was curious after reading your name removal letters...

It did not appear that the LDS Church honored your request to not use the word "excommunication" in your letter. Did you respond to this further or leave it at how they left it?

I requested the same and had a fairly efficient name removal procedure with no mention of bishops courts or the word excommunication.

you could possibly help.  I am just starting a
collection, and was wondering if you could help me
with this question.

How many and when were the printings of the Book of
Mormon in the 20th century?  I know about the obvious
ones, such as the 1920 and the 1981 editions when the
book was revised, but was wondering what other years
they were published.  For example, 1908, etc?

Hello Rodney,
I am just now catching up on the e-mail for the day.  I appreciate you working to protect our privacy, especially that of our wives and children.  I am going to write a book about my whole experience in Manti and my current views of Mormonism and religion as a whole in due time.  Possibly within two or three year's time.  This whole journey cannot be captured in a short article or summary; it would not do it justice.  Also, my current feelings about christianity in general will not please you and your current paradigm at all.  Maybe at some point I will share some conclusions publicly, but now is not that time.

Thanks again for your thoughtful consideration of our present desires for privacy and a break from the past.

Rod,

If only initials are used (no name or email address), I'll be glad to
address the questions you ask below.  What I don't want, is an internet
search of my name or email address to yield hits to your website.  I am
happy to share information with you as long as my name is not attached to
it.  Does that sound fair?

I hope you understand, I am not interested in protecting the TLC at all, or
withholding information -- I simply do not want my name / picture /
information associated with them in any way whatsoever.  The "testimony" I
wrote was done so under coercion, and then it was used and published
without my permission.  I was not in a position to defy them at the time,
so I appreciate your help in rectifying the situation (as far as it
involves your website) now.

So, if I can be an anonymous source, I can provide you with plenty of
information that would probably be of interest to you.  The TLC (at least
as of a year or two ago) tried very hard to emulate Joseph Smith's Nauvoo
mindset; and the same problems were rampant in Manti as were rampant in
Nauvoo.  The comparison is a very interesting study.

What are your thoughts?

Dear Mr. Roy,

My name is Kent Braddy, and I am a former member of the True & Living
Church of Jesus Christ of Saints of the Last Days (TLC). In the same
manner as you have received communication from Jeff Hanks and Andy
Erickson, I am requesting that you remove my personal information from
your website--namely, my photograph, my testimony, and my name.

I appreciate your willingness to work with us in this manner, and I also
understand your desire to publish some of the information contained on
the former website of the TLC. Let me add my voice of support to you in
making the changes that my friends and I have requested. I can also
assure you that there was never formal copyright on the material, and it
would seem that with the deliberate closure of the TLC website several
years ago, any copyright should have reverted to the individual authors
of the documents.

Let me also assure you that it is highly unlikely that the TLC will ever
be interested in protesting your activities. If, by unthinkable chance,
the TLC were ever to force the issue, my friends and I would be very
interested to hear about it. Where you have acted in good faith, there
should be no fear of legal action.

If you need further information from me, please contact me at this email
address. Thanks again for your assistance in this matter.

Sincerely,

Subject: Removal of personal information from your website

Dear Sir,

I will begin by stating emphatically that I am a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

I judge no man and, thereby, have no qualms with people who do not agree with the Church.  As a matter of fact, I gladly discuss the Church with all who would like to do so.  I am an avid reader and researcher.  Through this "hobby" of mine, I have researched, collected, and read volumes of "anti-" works.  I have truly learned more about the Church through my personal studies than one could possibly imagine.  I have a great deal of learning behind me and even more to come.  (I am working toward a degree in law.)

That having been said, I would like to compliment you on your web site.  It is one of the (if not THE) best resources I have yet to find.  I have viewed most of your site and have found it to be quite well designed.

I do, however, have one area that has me baffled.  I read your "disclaimer" I guess it would be called, but I cannot figure out why you have a direct link to TLC Manti site.  Again I understand what you said at the beginning of the link, but it gives the distinct impression that you support the organization.

Please do not misunderstand me.  I am glad you have them on your site.  I have been trying for  quite sometime now to access them, but I always find notices saying they are not speaking to the public or the site is down or whatever.

It is just my opinion, sir, that you are confused about what you believe.  I would like to invite you to send me any information (scripturally backed) as to why you think the Church is wrong. As I wrote earlier in this message, I have viewed most of your site (possibly all of it), but that is not to say that I have necessarily read all that I have viewed.  (Knowing that I am aware of what you have placed at the beginning of the TLC link, it is obvious that I have read at least some of the articles included therein.)  With that in mind, please do not get irritated if at some point in the future I may ask you a question that you may have answered on your site.

Another question I have concerns the Book of Mormon (BoM).  I did not notice anything that gave a definite opinion of yours concerning it on the site.  How do you feel about the BoM?

A last question for now, sir.  What is your opinion of the Inspired Version of the Bible (JST)?  I noticed that in places you quoted from it.

Now for my own legal notice.  While I am aware that you reserve the right to publish all or part of this email on your site, I must make one restriction.  If you choose to excerpt any part of this, or any other email from me, and use it on your site, the excerpt(s) MUST be used in the context in which I have written it (them).  Failure to follow this restriction will result in prompt legal action.

Thank you and sincerely,

Rod,

Thank you.  It was not my intent to be rude.  I appreciate your assistance
in this matter........

As I said before, the TLC does not own the copyright on these materials, so
if they do contact you with such a claim, I would appreciate hearing about
it -- though I would be very surprised if they were to do so.  They
recently lost a $300,000 lawsuit, so they aren't anxious to go to a
courtroom again any time soon; and since they believe the end of the world
is always just a "day or two" away, I really doubt that they care at all
one way or another about the removals.

Also, for what it's worth, I am fairly certain that the Journal of
Discourses, the TLC Book of Mormon (which is just the  1830 BOM with modern
verses), and the other LDS historical documents are part of the public
domain (due to the time that has elapsed since they were written), and as
such you can continue to have them on your website with or without the
TLC's "permission".  The J. of Discourses, and the rest of the "Reference
Library" could be available on your website completely separate from the
TLC material, if you wanted.

You have my sincere thanks for your attention to these matters.  I do
appreciate your efforts with your website -- there are many who can benefit
from the insights into Mormonism that you offer.

Sincerely,

Rod,

I am a friend of Jeff Hanks, and in a similar situation as he is. I have
written to you in the past and requested that you remove all information
about me and my family, and any materials written by me.  You have ignored
my request, as you are ignoring Jeff's.  What you may not realize is, the
TLC never had my permission, or Jeff's, to publish or disseminate any of
that information.  The TLC holds no copyrights whatsoever to my written
material or my images.  They have taken their website down; they had to in
order to avoid costly litigation.  However, you continue to refuse to honor
the requests from the true owners of the materials you are publishing,
disseminating, and hosting without permission and in direct violation of
the authors' wishes and demands.

I also will be pursuing legal action.  This nonsense has gone on long
enough.  And while I'm at it, I will be contacting several others who have
had their images and written materials stolen by the TLC for unauthorized
and illegal use, an offense that you continue to perpetuate.  More than
half of the authors whose work and photos appear on your site are no longer
in the TLC (and therefore, no longer subject to TLC abuse and coercion),
and I believe that most of them will be glad to offer help and resources
toward this legal effort.  Also, they will all bring the same point of view
to the issue:  all witnesses will agree that the TLC is not the copyright
holder of the materials, and that they were unrightfully appropriated and
used without consent.

The TLC is in no position to sue anyone, or come after you for some
supposed "copyright infraction" by removing the misappropriated
material.  You can either remove my name, photos, written material, and
anything else in reference to me from your website, or prepare to defend
yourself in court.

It has been nearly three years since the Hanks family left TLC and Manti, Utah, YET we continue to have our lives and the pictures of our children paraded on the internet. I request that you immediately remove any and all references to ourselves in any form on your site, as we no longer remotely embrace the teachings, doctrines or beliefs of TLC or any other Christian ideal.  To me, it is damaging to my children, who are innocent, to be paraded about for all to see.  Have some mercy, please.  If you claim to be so dedicated as Christians, then please do the right thing by taking us totally off your website.

Just stumbled across your site, very nice.

Just thought I'd drop you a quick note and see if you had caught the
article in the Saturday Nov 30 Idaho Press Tribune (don't know if it was in
the Statesman or not).

It was on page 2A of the Tribune though, labeled "Mormon scholar piques
reprisal"

About a Student who was doing their thesis on "American Apocrypha", using
genetic data about American Indians (coming from native Siberians not
ancient Isreal).  Another scholar the LDS church is looking at excommunication.

I think you may be able to look it up online at
www.idahopress.com, or you
should be able to get it at either BSU or the Boise Library if you want to
look at it.

Once again nice, site, hope it is useful as an outreach.

Dear Director,
I have been researching on the internet and came across your very
enlightening site.  I would like to learn more about your organization
which I assume to be addressing the concerns of people who are Mormon but
who do not agree with some of the Church directions.

I am not Mormon, but am trying to fully understand the practice of
posthumous baptism.  I am Jewish and have had the very upsetting experience
of finding my family listed as having been posthumously consecrated into
the Church. These names have been removed from the IGI and the Ordinance
Index, but I am concerned that they still reside in some other list which
will surface long after I am gone.

It is my understanding that patrons have the religious responsibility of
submitting the names of their direct ancestors .  I respect the right of
anyone to hold whatever religious belief they choose, but doesn't  this
posthumous activity  serve to negate the beliefs of others?

If this posthumous baptism is central to the teachings of the church,
should not the International Genealogical Index be identified for what it
truly is....an index of the names of people from a variety of religious and
ethnic backgrounds who have been posthumously consecrated to the church in
accordance with Mormon belief?

Further, if posthumous baptism requires a link to the person(s) being
baptized, how does this equate with the function of extractors who capture
names from birth and marriage indices and add them to the IGI?

My purpose in writing to your organization  is not to challenge this
practice, but rather to understand  it fully.

Respectfully yours,

First off I am so glad that there are people like you who are trying to
spread the gospel and the truth about the LDS church.  I live in eastern
Idaho and I just moved here and it is such a shock to see so much bigotry
between LDS people and non LDS people.  If you are not LDS you are simply
not treated fairly wether it be trying to find a job or trying to buy a car.
But if you put on a white undershirt you would be surprised how
differently people act towards you.  Dont beleive me?  Try it sometime.
Women will flock to you if they think you are mormon here it is just crazy
they dont even care about you they just care if you are LDS or not.

There is a whole other world that goes on in and near Utah that most
americans are not aware of.  I could go on and on but it would simple sound
to far fetched for people to beleive.  Well unless they are a non mormon and
they live within 200 miles of SLC.  But beleive me things like this and more
go on.  I just hope and pray that the mormon church will change everything
and simple go by the bible the one and only true bible.  I know this
probably wont happen but we can all pray and hope that it does.

Keep up the good work and keep up with trying to get word to all the mormons and all the christians about what these people beleive in and how non christian the whole thing is.  Its like a buissness all they want it more
money.  Think about it.  They are encouraged to have ALOT of children.
Their children have alot of children and so on and so forth.  Pretty soon
they have spread their whole non christian religion to the whole world.
Just more tithing.  Do the math people if things keep up like they have been
the last few decades there will only be mormons in a couple of hundred
years.  This is simply satan at work.  They are nice people though but
unfortunately that will not get you into heaven.  It may get you into a LDS
temple though where they can yup you guessed it get more cash out of you.

God bless you.

Hi,

Thanks for the compliment, but let me explain I didn't start the
meetup.com site and I have no financial stake in it whatsoever. I just
happened to come across it a week ago and proposed to them an "exmormon
meetup". They added it yesterday.

I have thought about what you proposed as far as an exmormon-christian
meetup (actually I'm not a christian, but it's an excellent idea) and maybe
you could click on "Suggest A Topic" at the site and they may add it. I'm
thinking though that they are going to first want to see how many exmormons
sign up for this. That would be my guess anyway. I have no problem with a
meeting of exmormon-atheists, exmormon-christians, exmormon-whatevers
getting together. (I'm agnostic, at least for now.) It's a start you know. I
think when people first leave the church they need time to sort things out,
which I guess is what I am doing. What's neat about this website is that it
provides a way for people to meet up all over the world, not just in SLC or
Los Angeles. As long as it gets promoted, people can find out about
gatherings wherever they are, even overseas. It gives the average "Joe Blow
Exmormon" in Timbuktu a chance to find support in making the transition from
the mormon lifestyle.

Thanks again for your help; I appreciate it. Please inform meetup.com once
you've linked to them. They just like to be aware and they'll even link back
to your site if you want them to. Thanks again and please sign up there as
well. :-)

Dear Rod,

I was very thankful to come upon your web site.  Several weeks ago I invited Mormon missionaries into my home and allowed them to share about the Book of Mormon.  I was never thoroughly instructed re: Mormon beliefs prior to that time, but posed some difficult questions for the missionaries during our hour of sharing.

I called the 888 number and ordered a copy of the BOM this past Friday and have a meeting scheduled with two missionaries on Monday evening.

I have done extensive reading and now have some idea of the origins of Mormonism, more knowledge of Jo Smith and how this whole concept was formulated.

I would covet your prayers on Monday, that I might present my concerns and objective facts in a loving way, as I listen to their presentation.  Your tracts and other related information was very helpful to me.

I pray that you will be blessed in your efforts to shine Gods' light in dark religious places.  I now refer to the BOM as " A Testament of Another Jesus", due to the variation from the historic, biblical record of Jesus Christ.

I have tried hard not to let my children see this, but in the process

My question is, how easy or hard will it be for me to have my oldest

Hi Rodney,
I haven't been an active member for over 9 years, but I was raised (and
blessed) into the mormon church.
The sacrement prayers sound exact (you might want to note that if they're
not said exact, they are repeated until they are exact. I remember once it
was repeated 6-8 times).  I never heard the aaronic or melchezidek, or it
was rare.  Or the concecration of oil.
The baby blessing sounds correct.  My Mom actually recorded all mine (and
my 5 siblings) blessings.  Basically, my dad (and members of my extended
family) would bless us that we would be happy, go on missions, meet nice
mormons and marry in the temple, etc.  It's been a long time, I'm not sure
if this is common.
Just wanted to give you feedback...

I was hoping to get some more information sent to me about this site. I have
to tell you I feel like I was guided to your web site the other day. I was
sitting in traffic heading downtown on State Street when I noticed your
vehicle and the caption printed on the rear window. At the time I thought "I
need to pull this guy over and check this out" but I obviously chickened out
and just made a note of the web address to look up later. When my roommate
got home from work that evening, she started telling me about this car she
saw while she was driving home (heading downtown again, this time from
Vista). My ex-husband & I split up over the LDS church. He is a member & I
was a convert with questions. While he is not by any means a practicing
member of his church, he was offended by my decision to attend another
church that is not LDS. He could not turn his back on his faith largely I
feel because of his families roots in the church. He recently told me he
wanted to reconcile & that he had been questioning his church & some of the
beliefs. Of course he changed his mind and started trying to get me back to
the church once the reconciliation process began. He still harbors the same
questions though & I have been praying for guidance on how to get this
message through to him. It seems to me my prayers have been answered by your
site. I can't tell you how shocked I was to find the 17 points of the true
church on your site. This has been a MAJOR discussion for us. He finally
gave me the biblical references for these points & when I read the
scriptures referred to on the little card, I found a lot of inconsistencies.
We have been debating this for days now.
Please send me more information about this site & the subjects talked about.
I think they could be very helpful to him in discovering what God wants from
him.

Thank you so much for this site. It has truly been an eye opener for me.

Sincerely,
Brandi Bowles

Dear Rod & Rose,

I want to commend you for posting responses that are "cons" as well as
"pros" in regard to your website ministry.  I have been thrilled to see
the "pros" and intrigued at the "cons".

As an ex-member of a legalistic religion, I know what it's like to be
easily offended at any criticism of my tightly held faith.  I also know
what it's like to finally discover that those things which I've held to
be solid are pretty full of holes.

I just hope that those who take offence at the information on your site
will at least take an honest look at their own heart to see if they are
committed to their church, or committed to God and the Truth regardless
of where it comes from.  That's a pretty painful revelation sometimes,
but makes all the difference in the world (and eternity).

Sincerely,

Kimberly Callahan

I am an exmormon..... currently involved with Freedom From Mormonism.... I came across the link to your site when it was posted on our Recovery Bulletin Board. I was very pleased to see how well researched all of your information was. I hope that it helps people not only learn why to avoid the Mormon Church but also help those who are trying to leave. Many people have a hard time leaving and the pain and isolation the church puts on them is horrible. That is why we have our group to help promote recovery and freedom. I also wanted to comment on your Blood Atonement area. I am not sure if you are aware or not but there have been quite a few suicices in the last couple of weeks... some because of the Prop 22/mormon involvment... and one suicide even has the bishop talking about how the gentleman did what was best for his family. Blood Atonement is not taught openly anymore ... but it is still taught, in the quiet areas, and the die hard groups. I am enclosing the link to my exit story which involves Blood Atonement " http://www.teleport.com/~packham/warning2.htm Cause of Death: Mormonism." I was a Gospel Doctrine teacher in the church and there are also many others like me who are active in Freedom From Mormonism. There are about 120 stories on our site about those who have left the church and the problems they had. If you have any questions that we can help with please contact me or you can email the administrative board from our FFM site " http://exmormon.org/ Welcome to Freedom From Mormonism!"

Again let me just say what a wonderful and informative site you have... It's nice to know there are others out there who are helping too :-)

Hi,
I just sent you an e-mail by accident that had nothing in it.  I am in the
process of researching your mininstry and must say that I am encouraged to
find that such a thing exsists!  My mom is involved with the mormon church
and we have agreed to disagree on this issue.  However, I can't help but
think that with the right knowledge my mom would reject these false beliefs.
I am interested in receiving information, if you would be so kind to send
it.
My address is

Thank you for listening(reading) this.  I covet your prayers for my mom, her

Hello!

My name is Mary and I am 17. I am a former Jehovah Witness and a former Mormon. I left Mormonism this past spring and have since rededicated my life to Jesus Christ.

I have been trying to witness to and reason with a Mormon friend, Sam, and have been praying didligently for him. Right now, he is very upset with me for "attacking" what he values and devaluing his "testimony" He is feeling very offended. I have been where he is (twice) and I know the process, I lived the process. With me, I was very stubborn and people had to go so far as to force me to think on my own, and I have been through a very informal kind of deprogramming.

There is so much more to my story than I could possibly write in one setting, but I was wondering if you could send me some info on effectively and lovingly presenting the gospel of Christ to Mormons. I have been trying to reach him by speaking of things like justification through grace, but it is just not registering.

I am overwhelmed with gratitude toward my Heavenly Father who has provided all sufficient grace for even me. I feel strongly that I have a responsibility to show those I care about who are still in cults that God is love. I feel that the Lord allowed me to go through everything that I have so that I could be used by Him as a witness of His love.

Thanks for listening! Please keep my friend Sam in your prayers. Any information you could send me would be very appreciated. I also want you to know that websites like yours have truly been an answer to prayer for me.

God bless you!!

Mary

Thanks for the location of the handbook.

I had absolutely no interest in looking at it until they wanted to sue the Tanners against using it.

Hello Rod,

Whew... what a big site. I have read several of your offerings and haven't even scratched the surface. What you have provided your visitors on this web site is a real blessing of info. Hope that you continue to add to the site relevant information of the coming and going of the LDS so that many will be informed and aware.

May the Lord continue to guide you in your minsitry outreach with His word. May this fall season bring you and your wife a spiritual harvest of the good things that come from His hand. God bless...

Hi Rod,

It's so nice to hear from you. I also enjoyed meeting you in Nauvoo. How
fun to receive these pictures! Thank you.

I visited your web site and looked at the scrapbook of the outreach. I
hated to have to leave so early! Looks like you guys had lots of
wonderful opportunities to share God's mercy and grace.

I'm wondering if you can give me any contact information for Terry Foss
as we spoke about in Nauvoo?

Keep in touch, okay? And thanks again for the photos.

Dear Rod and Rose:

I heard about your site through the Berean Report, put out by John
Farkas.  I was at the recent temple opening in Columbus, OH (my
hometown) and was able to spend some time passing out literature and
witnessing.  I wanted to complement you on your site...it's well done!
I would also like to ask you to send me a real audio file for both the
1984 and the 1990 temple ceremonies.  I did the 1984 endowment in the
D.C. temple and I'd love to have a copy of "my" ritual and the changed
one. Would you also be able to tell me how to do the hookup so I could
make a tape from the PC?  I think that all that is necessary is to go
from the speaker output on the sound card into a microphone input on a
tape recorder, but I'm not sure.

Thanks in advance for the files, and God bless you and your ministry!

Thanks for a very useful site.  Have book marked and will return to read further.  Would invite you to visit Sonnets for Christians at http://www2.southwind.net/~rdgrob/bgs4x.htm where you will find over 200 sonnets intended to arm, equip, encourage and warn the body/bride of Christ.  May God bless you in your ministry - it is much needed.

Dear Rodney,

I was so glad to hear from you.  Praise God you are out of the LDS church.  I pray that you have accepted Jesus Christ.

Would it be possible for you to come and visit here?  During the Mormon pageant would be a great time.  We have some excellent teachers--some of the best in any ministries who come to help us.  It would be a great learning time for you. I have extra sleeping beds, so the cost of getting here and eating would be all you would be out.

Tell me more about how you got out.  I am always facinated.   And if I can be of help to you please let me know.  Keep in touch.  I will write more later.  I have been to the doctor this morning and am trying to get the Center ready for our official opening tomorrow.  This will be our 12th year.   Did you hear the news?  They plan to build a temple here.

Rodney,
Very well done! I didn't even know that  there was a difference in the Temple

Hi Rodney,

I was just wondering (from the location and name of your ministry) if
you work in any capacity with Pastor Mark Cares in Nampa.

I thank God for people like you who are trying to help the LDS in my
(real) home.  I am a displaced son of Idaho.  I grew up in Fruitland and
lived in Boise for five years before leaving for New Mexico and Oregon.
The whole time I lived in "Mormon Country" I thought the LDS church was
just another Christian denomination!  May God help you spread the truth!

I was visiting your web page just out of cuiosity.  I am a Christian,
but my brother-in-law converted to Mormanism a few years back.  He
converted so that he could marry his girlfriend.  Now I think he is
beginning to believe the teachings.  This isn't a great problem for me
because he seems to follow the teachings selectively.  He follows them
when it's convienent.  The problem is that he has a newborn baby.  I
went to the blessing at his church.  The things that were said disturbed
me.  I am fearful for his new daughter.  They don't live close to me, so
I don't see them very often.  Do you have any advice, or do you know of
any resources available that could help me.  I can't bear my niece going
to hell.  At the blessing they prayed for her.  They seemed to think
that would save her from going to hell.

Any thought would be appreciated.

Dear Sir,
I've enjoyed reading your web site.  Although I am an active member, and have no immediate plans to quit the church, I find myself identifying with many of your concerns.  Primarily being the fallibility of church leadership, and the dubious authenticity of the Pearl of Great Price.  However, I'm quite glad to see the emphasis on Christ which appears throughout your web site.  I would prefer to see more of this kind of Christ centered thinking.  With that kind of unity, I would imagine that you and I could both work together applying Christ's teachings in rendering humanitarian service to our fellow folks.  Isn't Christ great?

Hello Rodney,

Thanks so much for providing us a copy of your well written
piece on how to have one's name removed from church records.

We sometimes get requests from members regarding how to do
this.  May we have your permission to provide your article to those
who ask?

Thanks again.  We look forward to hearing from you again regarding
distribution of your piece.

God bless and best wishes,

I have enjoyed looking at your site. My name is Tim I am from Michigan.
My wife and I have been "Members in good standing" for 5 years right up
until last Wednesday when we delivered a letter to our Bishop asking to
have our names removed from the church records. We have been doing a
little investigation lately and have found lot's of interesting
information about the past that the leaders would just assume we not
know about :~)!
We were evangelical Christians before we were deceived into joining the
LDS church (Cult) anyway we were blessed we quickly found a new church
that quickly has filled up our emptiness and is helping to relieve our
doubts and concerns that we are giving up our eternal salvation! Well, I
won't keep you long, but I thought you  might have some advice for me
and my family! Seeing that you all have just gone through this. See Ya
later!

I am a Mormon who is in the process of leaving the church.  I have been inactive for about four years and just last week began the process of having my name removed from the LDS records.  I have begun a personal ministry to the Mormons in my City and County and wish information on how to build a web site like yours.  I find that it is excellently built and wish to know how you built it.  I am very new to building homepages.  Any info or advice would be appreciated.  My attachment is in Works format.

Thank You,

Thanks, Rodney. I added your link a while  back. Good luck with your page. I noticed on A.R.M. that somebody responded to your web site announcement by accusing you of not knowing what you're talking about. That's typical. The standard response to any criticism of the L.D.S. church (and probably most others), is an ad hominem attack. Anyway, hope your site gets lots of hits

Rodney,

Your site is very creative.  I thoroughly enjoyed it. Please send me
your postal address, as I'd like to send you some complimentary issues
of our Heart and Mind newsletter.  We mail it free to nearly 60,000 LDS
homes nationwide.  I'd like you input on how to increase its impact.

In our blessed Lord,
